It’s been awhile, while I was trying to save my work earlier on Excel, something struck me and I have to write about it. I am not sure is it just me but…

Why is the THREE AND A HALF INCH FLOPPY DISK still being used as a Save icon?

Did you know back then it was like the Holy Grail product in terms of saving files but aren’t we already in the era of trying to remove the Compact Disc? I know I may sound ungrateful, the Floppy Disk did serve us well and saying this is like saying most phone should replace its phone icon with a rounded rectangle and a circle in it (symbol for iPhone). But traditional phones are still around you see.

Personally, I think the Save icon should be replaced with the Life Saver icon.

It makes so much sense, doesn’t it? Think about the next generation using the software, they probably have not seen a floppy disk before and using a floppy disk icon as a save button is like giving them a history lesson of storage devices.
